Born in Mohammedia, Morocco, Mourad started singing and making music at an early age. Mourad’s childhood music collection played an influential role in his music style. His childhood influences include Nass El-Guiwane, Jil Jilala, and Khaled, as well as Western legends such as Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, and Bob Marley.
Education has always played an important role in Mourad’s life and he approached his studies with unfaltering dedication. After he relocated to the United States to continue his education, Mourad connected the worlds of music and engineering by studying both at Virginia Tech where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering in 1996. While at Viginia Tech, Mourad performed locally on campus and in the greater Washington DC area. Mourad’s first album, “Hakda Dima,” (Like this forever) was released in June 1998. The album contained a melange of songs in Moroccan, French, and English, which fully embodied Mourad’s musical talent and versatility and gave a true sense to East meets West. Mourad himself wrote and produced all the songs. To kick off the album release Mourad later opened for Amr Diab during his 1998 concert in Washington DC, a performance that received rave reviews from fans and critics alike. Mourad’s first album is still available at Tower Records across the country and distributed by Fassiphone in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.
Mourad’s second album, with a simple and frank title “Mourad” has finally arrived. This second album covers a wide array of music styles, including Rai, Dance, Latin, Hip-Hop and yes, Chaabi!! “Houlouni” is truly a masterpiece while “Lila” and “Zine” make you want to get up and dance to these high-energy, full-beat dance tracks. “Hiati Hadi” is a song that depicts the struggles of a hopeless Moroccan teenager. Take an epic journey by listening to “Nabghik 100%,” a song destined for a SiFi movie soundtrack release, and finally, listen to Mourad’s versions of “Alowa” and “Chalini” done like they have never been done before
