Khadija Benzrou McNitt  [ December, 2011 ]
Khadija Benzrou McNitt
I am originally from Meknes, Morocco, came to the US in NOV1991. Like most immigrants, I worked hard, different jobs including hospitality  ( restaurants, hotel and Travel agencies), then I worked for Suntrust bank for years but in the back of my mind I always wanted to be in the health field and I didn't want to go to medical school in my thirties so I finally got the courage to leave the comfort of a nice steady income and went back to school to become a Registered Nurse.

I graduated as an RN, worked in the hospital locally in Orlando but I my heart has always been drawn to Oncology as I think Cancer patients are the best and most special patients int he world and are deserving of any  care you give as a healthcare provider so I went back to school, got my Bachelors in Nursing and I sat for my National Oncoclogy Certification exam. I changed from the comfort of working 3 days a week ( 12 hours) and accepted a position at the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute in the NeuroOncology department, took care of spine and brain tumor patients and I met wonderful people along the way, where I learned to manage care, mix chemotherapy and administer it, along the way I find myself, being the friend, the social worker, the educator, the financial advisor and the Nurse. after a year of doing that, I caught the attention of the upper management and they offered me a Nurse Manager position at a Hematology and Oncology practice with 3 physicians, 6 Nurses, 3 Medical assistants, one pharmacy Tech, One lab Technician, two financial advisors, a social worker and many more clerical employees.

I currently manage two practices, taking care of Oncology patients, making sure they are getting the Best care they can get while they are going through their Cancer journey. I am back in school for my masters in Nursing and an MBA and I should be done in about two years. This will allow me to teach Nursing on the side while practicing.

I feel blessed and honored to be part of their lives everyday and I feel priviliged to do what I love to do for a living.

I wake up everyday and Thank God for what I have and ask him to give me strength to give.

I love my life, I Have a wonderful loving husband ( he is Moroccan as well). I don't have an extravagant life but I have a wonderful, fulfilling life. I am glad I am in the US where I was able to go back to school and be exactly who I wanted to be.
