Originally from Mohammedia Morocco,
Jamal Laoudi resides in the greater WashingtonDC
area. He completed his studies at the University
of Maryland College Park where he
received degrees in Computer Science and Economics. He is employed as a
Researcher with the Adelphi Research Laboratory.
A strong believer in the need for the organization of the
Moroccan American community, he is active through writing about the community’s
issues and affairs. He is a regular contributor for various community-dedicated
portals such as www.wafin.com , www.washingtonmoroccanclub.org
, and www.moroccoboard.com.He also blogs for www.maghrebvoices.com and has his own www.filsdubled.blog.com.Some of his work has been featured in various
international portals.
His pieces take various forms including doing
interviews.In 2008, he interviewed the
legendary French producer Martin Meissonnier who is credited with playing an
instrumental role in the internationalization of Rai music.Jamal Laoudi also played a key role in
reuniting Meissonnier with Cheb Khaled after which the latter recruited the
former to produce his album “Liberté”. Other interviewees included Cheb Yazid,
and Moroccan American Hip-Hop artist RSLOU.
Since 2005, Jamal Laoudi has been consulting for Dawn Elder Management
& World Entertainment (DEMWE).DEMWM
manages artists like Kathem Saher, Cheb Mami, Cheb Khaled, and Magda Romi.In 2009, he assisted DEMWE in “Sahra Night”,
a mega fundraiser concert that featured names like Cheb Khaled and Assala,
which benefited the Children of the Arab World. Prior to that, he worked with them in Cheb
Khaled concerts in WashingtonDC
and MontrealCanada.
In 2007, Jamal Laoudi consulted for the Middle East
Broadcasting Network TV and Radio in launching their TV broadcast with Comcast
in Northern Virginia. He also consulted for them in organizing a
concert featuring Kathem Saher in WashingtonDC
in 2006.
In 2008, he consulted for Prince Group in organizing a
concert that featured the Lebanese star Fadel Chaker.
He is currently working on a collection
of poems in Darija (Moroccan Arabic) which has already received rave reviews.
It is to be entitled “Saraha Raha” (The Truth Shall Set you Free) and due out
in 2010.He also serves as the Chair of
Hassan Mendoun Memorial Soccer Tournament, an event part of the Washington
Moroccan Club’s 20th anniversary celebration where guests of honor are expected
to include Olympic Medal winner Nezha Bidouane, and soccer World Cup veterans Dolmy
Abdelmajid, Aziz Boudarbala, and Khalil Azmi.
