Dr. Kaoutar El-Maghraoui is a Systems Research Scientist at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY. Her research interests include operating systems, distributed and HPC systems, and the applications of analytics in systems research. She is currently leading a research project to apply IBM Watson cognitive technology to speed up problem diagnosis and resolution for IBM's flagship POWER systems. Kaoutar obtained a PhD in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and a Masters degree in Computer Networks from Al-Akhawayn University, Morocco. She has co-authored several conference and journal publications in the areas of systems research, distributed systems and high performance computing. She has served in many technical conferences as a co-chair, a member of the program committee, and reviewer. Kaoutar has received the American Association of University Women fellowship, the Robert McNaughton Award for best thesis in computer science at RPI, IBM’s Eminence and Excellence award for leadership in increasing Women’s presence in science and technology, and IBM’s Tier II award for contributions to the foundational POWER software technologies and promoting these systems in Africa. She is a member of the IEEE Computer Society, Society of Women Engineers, and the ACM. and IBM Watson's Women's Network. Dr. Kaoutar is very passionate about mentoring and promoting the participation of women in STEM fields. She is the Vice President of the Arab Women in Computing organization (ArabWiC) and the co-chair of its affiliated Anita Borg Institute Systers’ community in the US.
