Driss
Marbou was born in Fes and grew up in Sefrou Morocco. Sefrou is a
small city best known for its annual cherry festival.
In
the summer of 1987, through a program organized by AMIDEAST and
funded by YMCA, Driss took part of a group of young Moroccans who
came to the US to work as camp counselors. In 1989, shortly after his
graduation from University Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah, Fes with a B.A.
in English Literature, Driss relocated to the United States.
In
1999 Driss completed his graduate studies and earned his Masters
degree in Telecommunications from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY.
Driss currently works in Connecticut at Tangoe ( www.tangoe.com
) as a Service Delivery client specialist helping domestic and global
organizations manage, understand, and control their fixed and mobile
communications assets and costs.
Driss
has a passion for visual art expression and sporadically, in his
spare time, enjoys creating oil and acrylic paintings as well as
Arabic calligraphy whether on traditional media such as Oils and
Acrylics on canvas or digital media such as Adobe Creative Suite
applications and Wacom tablet. Through his artwork, Driss tries to
capture some of those splendid and exquisite Moroccan visual
experiences lavish with Mediterranean vibrant colors and infinite
moorish geometrical shapes. Driss is an evolving self taught artist
and some of his artworks can be viewed at www.drissmarbou.com
In
the spirit of promoting the Moroccan culture in general and the
Moroccan Visual Arts in particular, Driss launched a family oriented
online portal ( www.atlasvisualarts.org
) for visual artists at all levels, professional or casual, to
showcase and market their artworks. One of the objectives is to allow
for Moroccan artists to extend their artistic creativity to audiences
in the US and vice versa.
Membership
at Atlas Visual Arts is currently FREE of charge. The Moroccan and
American communities are encouraged to take advantage of these free
services.
