AMPA event a great success.

By Bouchra Adyel

AMPA - Association of Moroccan Professionals in America - organized a milestone fundraiser during its members annual assembly in New York City on October 25th, 2008.

Under the theme of Droit de la jeune fille rurale au Baccalaurat, AMPA organized a fundraiser for CSSF - Comit de Soutien la Scolarisation des Filles rurales.

This nonprofit association is helping young underprivileged Moroccan rural women to overcome the high drop out rate in high school. Through its network of local associations in remote areas in Morocco, CSSF provides 1100 young women with living facilities (27 foyers), meals and private courses for the first three years of high school.

During its Charity Fundraiser Gala, AMPA raised over $11,000 for the CSSF Campaign. The evening consisted of a dinner, a fashion show, music, as well as a live and silent auction. Moroccans and friends of Morocco from all over the country attended the event (over 90 guests) to contribute to this great cause.

Art pieces from the Moroccan artist Mr. Hamid Kachmar as well as Caftans from renowned Moroccan Designers were auctioned off to the highest bidders. In addition, the Sefrioui-Badissy foundation donated 54 laptops to the CSSF Foyers, Nine West Company presented CSSF with a $2,500 check, and AMPA donated an additional $1,000.

The Moroccan ambassador HEM Mr. Mekouar gave an uplifting speech, praising AMPA for its efforts to project a great image of successful Moroccan professionals as well as give back to their country. Mrs. Saadia Bouftas, the CSSF representative from Morocco, expressed her gratitude to AMPA for organizing the event and contributing to the education of our future generation.

A media event will be organized in Morocco next month to present CSSF with the total fundraiser amount.

The Association of Moroccan Professionals in America (AMPA) is a non-profit organization established to promote networking between Moroccan professionals, transatlantic business opportunities, career development and community service.

abdelgolf :  do truly appreciate the initiative of this association, but I find it somewhat feminist, in that the cause is aimed at assisting exclusively girls..When the boys are left out, do we have to form another association solely for them?? Why do we have to be divided?? a noble cause remains untarnished of any discrimination..I hope my view will open another door for underprivileged boys to benefit from this humanitarian cause..

peace
