Dyna
Stephens PA, formerly Dyna Loukach, is from Tetouan
(Tetúan/Tittawen), Morocco. She grew up in a conservative and
prestigious family of Moors and Fassi descendants. Her great
grandfather Loukach (Lucas) was a philosopher and doctor who came
from Spain in the 14th
century to settle in Tetouan. He founded “Madrasat Loukach” in
the old Medina which was the first private school/college in the
country. Today Madrasat Loukach is a Museum. “Jamaâ Loukach” is
another landmark in the city. HM
King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, performed the Friday
prayer in Loukach Mosque a couple of months ago.
The
ancestors
on
Dyna’s mother’s
side were business based and politically involved. Her grandfather
Mohamed Laârbi Benjelloun together with other leaders including the
“Sadre al Aâtham”
helped release the city of Tetouan from the Spanish power and
contributed to the
independence of Morocco in 1956.
With such a background, Dyna wanted an identity for herself. She
moved to the US in 2000 and started her own business. Dyna did not
use any of her family’s resources for this venture.

A
fact about Tetouan Dyna says: “ All the traditional old families
are related in many ways and on many levels. We are a network of
cousins
with a tremendous rich culture. We all reconnect at weddings. We are
all close and I miss it a lot : ) ”
