What do you look for in a long distance company to make phone calls to Morocco?
By The Wafin Team
We have had many
e-mails from our members asking us why we chose VIP communications as our
partner to cal l Morocco. To give you a little history,
for the last two years we have been looking for a decent long distance phone
company for us and for our members. We tried quite a few and finally settled on
VIP communications. Not only have they been wonderful to our members, but they
have also lowered their minute cost for us and offered 100 minutes of free
calls to Morocco (Go to http://www.wafin.com/call-morocco/
to find out more about that exclusive deal.
So to answer the
question “why we chose this particular company?” is to answer the question: “What
do you look for in a long distance company to make phone calls to Morocco?”
The company uses
major and reputable Telecom carriers
Some phone companies promise incredibly cheap rates to Morocco.
In almost all cases, cheap rates mean that they are using the Internet to carry
the calls. The result is poor voice quality and dropped calls, which, of course,
gives them a chance to hit you with multiple connection or disconnection charges.
No connection charges
This is a big one, and it can really add up when you are
leaving voice messages for your friends and family back home. We’ve seen
connection charges as high as 49c!
No disconnection
charges
Phone companies may advertise no connection charges, but
when you hang up the phone, they apply a service charge, which can be up to
30%, so that a $1 call will cost you $1.30.
Absolutely no hidden
fees
You shouldn’t pay a cent more than the quoted rate. This is
an industry that is replete with shady companies that offer low rates, but when
it comes down it, you will often find that you are paying more because charges
are being applied that you were never made aware of.
Lost minutes
Pay attention to how your minutes reduce. When hidden fees
are applied, your minutes will diminish more quickly than they should. In many
cases, when you make more than one call using a calling card, your minutes
reduce by MORE than just the length of the call. Always check to make sure you
are getting the credit your have paid for.
No minimum use policy
Some companies have a ‘use it or lose it’ policy. This means
that, if you don’t use the minutes by a certain date, they expire and your
credit is lost.
Live customer service
operators
If your call doesn’t go through, or there is a service
problem, make sure you can speak to a ‘live’ person to get the problem
resolved. There’s nothing more frustrating, when you are having a problem, than
being redirected by an answering service.
‘Pinless’ dialing
Make sure the company offers the ability to register the
telephone numbers that you will be calling from, so that you don’t need to
enter a PIN code every time you call.
Speed dial
When you dial long trains of digits to call overseas, it’s
easy to misdial. And a misdial will waste your credit. A ‘Speed Dial’ feature
enables you to store your most called numbers and call them by keying a short
code. This way you never need to worry about misdialing.
Ease of Use
You should be able to check your call history, confirm that
you have the minutes or credit that you think you should have and replenish
your account, easily over the phone or via a website.
Finally a word about Skype
and other Internet phone companies
It is true that Skype to Skype calls are free, but this, of
course, means whoever you are calling must also be a Skype user and must be
sitting by their computer when you call!. Having said this, calls from a Skype phone
to a normal overseas landline or mobile phone are NOT free. In fact, in many
cases, they are just as expensive as using regular phone services. But the real
disadvantage of these Internet phones services is that you can’t use then from
your cell phone. You need to be using your home phone or, even more
inconvenient, your computer. Always make sure that you can use your
international calling service from your cell phone.
nouhailas : I must say. I am very happy with this company. Wafin made a good choice. I used to use calling cards. The calls to Morocco are costing me much less now and it's a lot easier. Thanks Wafin for looking out for us.
rabatborn : I do agree that not everyone has skype on their computer, and you shouldn't be in front of your computer to call Morocco on Skype or any other VoIP either. Here is another solution, using an Iphone, or Nokia N96, or Samsung....etc, for example, install Fring or Skype on it. Have someone do the same thing on their smartphone capable of getting internet on it, and get Wana 3G or IAM 3G internet on that phone too. Cost about 199 dhs per month. And there you can call that same person for as little as $50 per month ($30 dollars for data plan/internet on your phone and about $20 for your friend's internet on theirs) Illimited calls and no min taking from your phone during this step and this can be done anywhere both of you are, inside or outside no ties to Wifi.
PS: 2G works too, which widely available in Morocco more than 3G which is available only in lage cities. I tested several times.
To me it is immoral that we should pay those outrageous amount of money to telephone companies Moroccan or Americains/Canadian/European. The future is data voice. Phone cards are solutions similiar to the use of dialup to connect to the internet. I want to thank Wafin for bringing this solution of long distance to those who don't know about them yet. However there are other alternatives and your readers should know about them.
